FTSE slides on Shell

The FTSE 100 Index has lost 20.6 points, or 0.4%, to 5788.1 points this morning paced by Royal Dutch Shell and Shire.

Shell has dropped 26p, or 1.4%, to 1,791p, while Shire has fallen 11p, or 1.3%, to 872p after a US regulatory panel voted yesterday to highlight the heart risks of attention-deficit disorder treatments. Treatments including Shire's Adderall should carry the strictest warning of potential links to sudden death, the Food and Drug Administration committee said. Meanwhile, shares in airports group BAA have risen 1.48% to 791p, boosted by a report investment fund Star Capital Partners has been working on a possible bid for the firm.
