BUDGET '09: Cameron attacks economic 'mess' in Budget

The Conservative leader has savaged the Government's predictions of an economic upturn, and blamed Labour for ruining the UK's finances.

Speaking after Alistair Darling's Budget announcement, David Cameron claims the Treasury's debt and economic predictions were flawed. "Everyone can see what an utter mess this Labour government has made of the British economy," Cameron says. He says public debt will double in the next four years, with approximately £606bn of new debt over a six year period. Despite Darling predicting debt would begin to fall within four years, Cameron says his claims are based on an 'unrealistic' recovery to 3.5% GDP growth by 2011.
