Mortgage broker banned for false applications

The FSA has today banned a Bournemouth-based insurance and mortgage broker for submitting false mortgage applications.

Eric John Stevens, from Select Mortgage Services, was found to be knowingly involved in the submission of at least 22 false applications to mortgage lenders. Stevens had sole responsibility for ensuring the firm complied with the FSA’s requirements but information from witnesses and an FSA investigation found he had been involved in falsifying applications for mortgages. The FSA also found Stevens had failed to put in place and maintain adequate systems to deal with complaints, assess affordability and advice suitability and did not disclose appropriate information to customers.
