The government has agreed to extend the current moratorium on the use of genetic testing by insurers to 2011.
Following consultation with the ABI, the moratorium will apply to most insurance policies except those with high value payouts. A statement from the ABI from the ABI says this will work as part of a wider Concordat. The arrangement builds on existing ABI Code of Practice and compliance arrangements which specify an insurer can only use information from genetic testing when making assessments on life insurance policies worth £500,000 or more, critical illness policies worth £300,000 or more and income protection policies which pay £30,000 or more per year, and only if they receive governme...
