Damning mis-selling report triggers FSA reassurance

The FSA has issued reassurance it is winning the battle to end mis-selling in the subprime mortgage market ahead of the airing tonight of the findings of a damning BBC investigation.

The regulator says four unnamed brokers are due to be brought to book as part of its ongoing probe into the mis-selling of mortgages, following FSA action against three individuals in the last 12 months. Sub-prime mortgage customers are being advised to lie about their incomes to take out bigger loans, the BBC investigation alleges. It includes an interview with one former broker who says some industry colleagues tell their clients to say they earn more than they do in order to secure big money loans.
