Amvescap, the fund manager, is up 8.75p to 278p as investors bet the firm’s US operations will settle a deal with authorities over its part in the market timing scandal that has rocked the US mutual funds industry. British Airways is up 4.75p to 217p after talks with unions averted a strike planned for the coming long-weekend. AngloAmerican, the mining company, is up 13p to 1,271p after reports in South African press the government there may reconsider a rule that intends to boost black ownership of companies.
