Evidence submitted by the Pensions Policy Institute (PPI) to the Work and Pensions Committee on the white paper suggests a lot of work still needs to be done.
The 16 page document submitted to the select committee following the publication of the white paper on 25 May, reveals the PPI’s initial assessment of how well the proposals relieve the problems in the state pensions system, and raises some concerns with the policy for Personal Accounts. It expresses concerns over the figures used in calculating the number of pensioners eligible for means-testing in the future, and asks the government to publish the assumptions and models it used to work out the future figure of 33%.
