'Sandwich' pensioners feel need to work longer

An emerging "sandwich" generation of retirees could explain why many feel they need to work into their retirement.

As part of its “Enjoy Tomorrow” series of research pieces, Clerical Medical says the “sandwich” generation are those who are supporting ageing parents as well as dependent children and grandchildren. According to the research, 91% of those interviewed do not expect to be financially dependent on their children by the time they stop working, although a third of adults expect to still have financial dependents in retirement.
