FTSE falls on copper

The FTSE 100 Index has slipped 3.8 points, or 0.1%, to 5931.9 points this morning led by Kazakhmys and Tate & Lyle.

Kazakhmys has declined 2.4% to 939p as copper futures fell in Asia. Tate & Lyle has lost 1.9% to 575p, even as the world's biggest sugar refiner said its performance in the past two months has been "generally encouraging". The company said debt would be "significantly higher" in the second half. Meanwhile, Sainsbury has risen 1% to 330.25p as it reported sales rose for a fifth straight quarter as price cuts and advertising drew shoppers. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 Stock Average climbed to its highest close in more than 5 1/2 years, gaining 248.17 points, or 1.5%, to 16,938.41 points,...
