Endowment claims management firms to be regulated

Endowment mortgage claims management companies are to be regulated as part of the Compensation Bill which will be introduced to the House of Commons before the end of the year.

The bill is part of a raft of proposals to come out of the Department for Constitutional Affairs which will also bring about the regulation of legal services. The government had already announced its intention to create a licensing body to oversee the law society and bar council. Bridget Prentice, minister of state at Department for Constitutional Affairs, also confirmed this week the government had decided “insufficient progress has been made in improving the service provided by claims management companies through effective self-regulation”.
