Mortgages Plc conveyancer service 'open to abuse'

Mortgages Plc's new conveyancing service has been criticised as potentially being open to abuse by both brokers and solicitors.

The service, launched as part of the lender’s new On-Demand online platform, enables mortgage intermediaries to obtain the services of a solicitor to carry out a conveyance for their clients. The system has been white labelled by E-conveyance and is described by Mortgages Plc as an 'eBay-style' auction and rating service, which allows solicitors to bid for business and intermediaries then give solicitors a star rating based on the service they receive.
