FTSE gets boost from Wall Street

In the UK the FTSE 100 Index has fed off positive trading in the US, adding about 30 points to 4930.2 points in its morning session.

Shire Pharmaceuticals is up 16p to 578p, along with Rio Tinto, up 31p to £17.21. Smith & Nephew meanwhile, has slipped 26p to 496p. In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 Stock Average advanced 0.9% to 11,668.95, after a fall in crude oil prices in New York boosted stocks in Japan A positive day in the US also boosted export firms including Sony, up 0.7%to 4,270 yen, along with Advantest Corp up 1.4% to 8,220 yen. Nippon Steel picked up 3% to 271 after the steel manufacturer and Kobe Steel said they would buy a combined 12% stake in Sumitomo Metal Industry’s Wakayama steel mill. In the US the ...
