FTSE fall ahead of BoE decision

The FTSE 100 is down 53.2 points, or 0.9%, to 5,876.1 in early trading, as investors are cautious ahead of today's interest rate decision.

Leading the fallers, Amvescap is down 2.9% to 518.5p, while Old Mutual has slipped 2.56% to 161.75p and building group Wolseley has also got off to a poor start with a fall of 2.43% to £11.22. Mining stocks have also slipped with Antofagasta down 1.25% to 473.75p, while BHP Billiton has dropped 1.97% to 996p, although energy stocks are doing slightly better as Scottish & Southern Energy is up 0.08% to £12.16. Meanwhile Yell is doing its best to rally the index with gains of 7.22% to 571.5p after the Competition Commission proposed to allow the directories group to raise prices from Apri...
