Oil dictates FTSE decline

In London this morning the FTSE 100 Index as retreated 17 points to 4,966.60 points, led by oil stocks including BHP Billiton.

BHP Billiton has slipped 13.50p to 716p and Rio Tinto has also dropped 19p to 1716p, as oil prices fell for a sixth day. Antofagasta is also down 14p to 1266p, while the Royal Bank of Scotland lost 22p to £16.77, this morning. Cadbury Schweppes meanwhile, picked up 4p to 543.50p. In Tokyo the Nikkei 225 Stock Average dropped 1.1% to 11,745.64 at its close early Saturday morning, its biggest fall in two weeks.
