ABI and BMA agree deal on quality of GP reports

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) and the British Medical Association (BMA) have agreed a five-year deal over the quality of reports prepared by GPs for insurers and patients.

As part of the agreement the BMA has issued guidance to GPs on the completion of reports for life assurance purposes. The guidance includes: Recognition that life assurance is a ‘social good’ and is of benefit to patients, especially at significant points in their lives; and Advice that, as with other fee paid work, it should be done to appropriate professional standards to justify the agreed fees.
