First FTSE slip of the week

In the UK the FTSE 100 Index has closed lower for the first time this week, shedding 19 points to 5358.60, paced by Carnival.

The cruise line firm has retreated 84p to 2951p, as oil trades above $65 a barrel in New York. Insurer, Prudential has dropped 12p to 525p, along with Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance group closing 2p down to 92p, despite doubling its first-half profit. On the winning end, mining group Rio Tinto has added 22p to 2054p, after analysts said it is well placed to deliver dividends well above market forecasts.
