FTSE tickles 5500 but falls back

In the UK the FTSE 100 index of leading shares has dropped 16.6 points to 5478.2 at its close a short while ago after briefing spiking and pushing through the 5500.

Boots paced the decline, falling 20.5p, or 3.26% to 608.5p, after it warned of tough retail sector conditions saying it was uncertain about achieving its full-year sales forecast as revenue fell for a third quarter. The Website PartyGaming tumbled 8p, or 8.38%, to 87.50p and Tate & Lyle fell 13.25p, or 2.81% to 458p. Shares of Marks & Spencer however, gained 7p or 1.89%, to 377p on speculation of a management buyout. In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is down 27.57 points in morning trading to 5021.17 paced by Daimler Crysler, down $1.15, or 2.52% to $44.38. IFAonline
