Housing sales slowing to 70s levels - Rightmove

The average asking price for UK properties increased 4.9% in May from a year earlier representing the smallest annual increase since 1996, according to new housing figures.

Property website Rightmove, says the average asking price for a home in the UK increased to £198,147 during May, up just 0.3% from April’s figure of £197,539.> However, the firm, which claims around 60% of all properties up for sale, says the number of UK homes being sold has dropped to its worst level in a decade, with only 159,116 sales recorded in the first three months of the year, and may be heading to levels of sales last seen in the 1970s.
