Hutton stays at Work and Pensions

John Hutton, is to remain as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, despite early speculation that he might be in line for a promotion.

There have been five ministers in charge of the DWP in as many years and although Hutton has only been in the job since November, six months would not have been much shorter than Alan Johnson’s reign. Following the general election in May 2001, when the Department for Social Security became the Department for Work and Pensions, Alastair Darling retained the post he had held since 1998, becoming the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions until May 2002.
