House prices on the up again - ODPM

UK annual house price inflation stood at 4.3% in January, up from 2.9% in December the latest government figures reveal.

The average house price in the UK stood at £188,191 up from £185,788 in December 2005 according to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) representing a 1.3% rise during the period, compared to a fall of 0.1% the same time last year. Average prices rose across the board irrespective of the type of property. The average house price in England for January was at £197,020, £150,129 in Wales, £129,666 in Scotland and £140,305 in Northern Ireland.
