New Dow high boosts FTSE

The FTSE 100 is slightly up in early trading with a rise of 7.3 points, or 0.12%, to 6,237.4, despite a continued decline by Alliance Boots after the Dow Jones hit a record high overnight.

For the second day in a row Alliance Boots is topping the list of losers with a fall of 1.36% to 800p, closely followed by miner Anglo American which has slipped 1.3% to £24.36, while Antofagasta is down 1.16% to 468.5p. However Intercontinental Hotels are posting the biggest gains with a rise of 2.35% to £12.19, closely followed by Home Retail which is up 2.26% to 418.25p, while Royal & Sun Alliance has added 1.75% to 159.75p.
