New chair appointed at Aviva

Financial services Group Aviva has appointed Lord Sharman of Redlynch, OBE, as its new chairman, replacing the retiring Pehr Gyllenhammar at the start of the new year.

Sharman has served on the Aviva board since January and served as chairman of KPMG International before his retirement in 1999. He is also currently chairman at Aegis Group, an independent non-executive director of BG Group and Reed Elsevier. Richard Harvey, group chief executive of Aviva, says: “Aviva’s industry position owes much to the vision of Pehr Gyllenhammar in bringing together businesses to form what we know today as Aviva.
