The number of private landlords renting to immigrants has increased significantly over the past year causing rental growth and yields to increase, according to Mortgage Trust.
The specialist buy-to-let lender says those areas of the country which have experienced a high influx of immigrants have performed particularly well since the EU expansion in 2004. Research commissioned by Mortgage Trust found 28% of landlords let property to immigrants in September, up from just 4.6% in the same period last year. Mortgage Trust says strong demand for rented accommodation has been fuelled by immigration from countries that joined the EU in 2004, including Poland and the Czech Republic.
