FTSE bolstered by Dow Jones

In the UK, the FTSE 100 index has picked up from where it left off on Friday adding 25.5 points to 4,967 points, led by British American Tobacco.

The tobacco firm has added 24p to 967p after a US court said cigarette makers would not be made to pay $280bn in damages, the sum being demanded by the government in a civil racketeering lawsuit. Corus Group has also added 1.25p to £58.75. Sainsbury, along with Exel lead the drop by shedding 2.5p to 287p and 6.50p to 843.5p respectively. In the US the Dow Jones added 123.03 points to 10,716.13 points on Friday night, closing out a good week. Altria Group, the parent company of Kraft Foods led the rise amassing $3.26 or 5.11% to $67.
