FTSE ends up just a fraction

The benchmark FTSE 100 closed up a mere 0.10 points at 4,422.80 after UK stocks ended the day on a mixed note.

Cable & Wireless advanced 7.5p to 129p after the phone company reported it will pay a full- year dividend of 3.15p a share, backdating the payout to include its first half. In the meantime, oil stocks such as BP and Shell Transport gained after oil price climbed in New York yesterday, boosted by the last days’ of turmoil in Saudi Arabia. BP, one of the biggest oil companies in Europe, jumped 5.5p to 487.5p. Shell Transport rose 1.75p to 396p. UK lenders also climbed today.
