FTSE closes the week down

Disappointing trading for Morrison and GlaxoSmithKline left the FTSE 100 index flat by close of business on Friday.

At the end of what had been a tough week for the UK’s main benchmark index, the FTSE 100 index eventually closed up just one points higher at 4,923.3, as Morrison fell 4.75p or 2.3% to 201.75p after reporting its market position is not as strong as hoped, following the takeover of Safeway last year. Similarly, drugs giant GSK also dropped 23p or 1.84% to £12.24, along with Centrica which ended 4p or 1.74% lower at 225.5p. Moving in the other direction, the best gains of the day were had by BAE Systems gained 5.25p or 2.04% to 262p while Corus Group bounced back after yseterday’s losse...
