Houses are up but pictures not stable

Figures published by Hometrack suggest strong gains in the London market through January more than offset slow sales elsewhere, pushing the national average price for property up yet again.

Unlike other markets London is not limited by affordability issues, Hometrack says in its latest monthly note on house price changes. The 0.8% rise in the nation’s capital contrasted with below average house price growth in most other regions, including no change at all in the East Midlands, to a 0.3% gain seen in the South East and Anglia. That said, nearly three-quarters of the country experienced no increase in prices, as some areas begin to see a closer balance between supply and demand at current pricing levels.
