Govt Northern Rock pledge 'slap in face' for pension claimants

The Government has come under fire for pledging to support Northern Rock savers with some critics asking: ‘what makes them so special'.

Mike Jones, director of pension education webite, mycompanypension.co.uk, says the Government recently had to be “dragged kicking and screaming” into launching the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) to help over 100,000 members of failed company pensions schemes. In addition, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable, says the Government’s stance raises a series of other questions, including: ‘Will the deposit guarantee apply to other banks?’ Jones says the Government is sending out a mixed message to members of final salary schemes, who lost their pensions as a result of policies ...
