Oily rise for FTSE

The FTSE 100 Index has added 20.8 points, or 0.4%, to 5714 this morning, led by oil stocks including BP Group.

BP Group has risen 0.9% to 669p as crude oil for February delivery touched $67.20 in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Royal Dutch Shell has gained 0.6% to 1,839p, while BG Group has climbed 0.9% to 609p. Shire has also surged 6.7% to 890p. The company has settled its patent-infringement lawsuit against Impax Laboratories over its best-selling drug, Adderall XR, used to treat hyperactivity. Shire said no money has yet changed hands. Pearson, the world's largest educational publisher and owner of the Financial Times, has gained 14p, or 2%, to 700.50p. Morgan St...
