The FTSE 100 Index has advanced 27.2, or 0.5%, to 5,716.50 this morning, led by Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton, after Goldman Sachs raised its earnings forecasts for the miners.
Rio Tinto has climbed 60p, or 2.28%, to 2,694p as Goldman lifted its recommendation on the stock to "outperform" from "in-line", while BHP Billiton has added 10p, or 1%, to 976p, and Anglo American has gained 17p, or 0.9% to 1,966p. Barclays Plc has also risen 6p, or 1%, to 625p after the bank's share estimate was raised 11% to 720p at Morgan Stanley, while HBOS has added 11p, or 1.2%, to 971p after Morgan Stanley increased its price estimate for the stock by 9% to 1,090p.
