Emerging markets are revving up, writes James Flintoft, but what makes them emerging anyway?

While much of the Western World has been tied up in rising inflation and looming debts, emerging markets have caught the eye of some investors. South Korea's KOSPI index rose near 40% in the past year, thanks to the performance of companies like Samsung. Taiwan's main index has climbed near 20%, largely thanks to tech giant TSMC which accounts for more than half the market. Interestingly, some of the top companies powering emerging markets aren't really names that are ‘emerging' at all.
