The government plans to look into whether introducing auto-enrolment to employer schemes now can help tackle undersaving.
Speaking at a seminar on the white paper hosted by the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF), James Purnell, Minister for Pensions Reform, says employers have a crucial part to play now. He points out around 4.5 million people work for employers which run pension schemes and yet do not save in them, and as a result the government is “keen to work with employers” to see if auto-enrolment could encourage people to start saving now.
