Richard Brown has become acting chairman of the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML), after previous chairman Stephen Crawshaw, also former chief executive of Bradford & Bingley, stepped down on health grounds.
Brown was previously deputy chairman of CML and the CML executive committee will consider making him chairman for the remainder of the year at its next meeting in July. On Monday, Crawshaw stepped down as chief executive of Bradford & Bingley, which had unveiled an £8m loss in the first four months of 2008, citing health reasons. Brown is currently managing director of Bank of Ireland Personal Lending, a position he has held since 2001.
