The Government's pension credit scheme is still failing to reach a large portion of pensioners because of a low understanding of the system by potential beneficiaries.
Research by the Department for Work and Pensions regarding older people’s attitudes and knowledge of pension credit found while 81% of non-recipients have heard of Pension Credit, only 48% believe they would be better off receiving it. With 2,300 people over the age of 60 questioned, there still appears to be some form of stigma attached to claiming the benefit, the research suggests, because as many as 35% say nothing could convince them to apply for pension credit, while 30% say they would apply if they were certain of eligibility and an additional 13% applying under the chance of elig...
