An increase in the zero rate stamp duty threshold has done nothing to increase the confidence of the country's first-time buyers, new research suggests.
A survey conducted by Abbey, questioning just over one thousand people, finds 35% of potential first-time buyers want to buy property in the next year, however only 5% believe they will be able to do so, representing the same figure as three months ago. The life assurance firm finds a quarter of respondents believe if they don’t act soon they will not be able to get on the property ladder, with a number of alternative ways of getting onto the property ladder being sought, in order to do so.
