The FTSE 100 index eventually failed to make any headway on this morning's trading, as news of the Amvescap settlement with US regulators kept the market down.
The FTSE 100 index closed down 7 points or 0.16% to 4,558.4, thanks largely to Amvescap after the firm agreed to $450m to US regulators after a year-long investigation into mutual fund trading. By close of business, Amvescap had lost 7.25p or 2.29% to 309p. At the other end of the scale, Dixons had a good day after reporting sales at the high street electrical retailer improved over the summer. Dixons closed up 1.5p or 0.94% to 161.75p.
