Labour policy on pensions will provide nothing more than a set of principles to govern a future Labour Government, claims political analyst Cicero Consulting
This will be in part due to the fact that the Turner Commission is not due to publish its final report until the Autumn. Cicero says what has so far been promised is that Labour will put pension legislation before the House of Commons within its first year in power In addition Labour has said the Pensions Credit scheme is a short to medium term solution with Secretary of State for the Department of Work and Pensions, Alan Johnson, suggesting Labour is considering a residency based pensions system as this is seen as being more cost effective and more supportive of female pensioners.
