TV and insurance lift FTSE

The FTSE 100 closed up 23.30 points today to 4,517.40 after UK stocks advanced, led by ITV and Prudential.

ITV shares rose 3.5p to 118p. Prudential, which owns 79% of Egg, rose 11.5p to 474.5p. The Sunday Telegraph speculated Pru may get a bid worth more than £1.4bn for the internet bank from Capital One Financial Corp. Egg jumped 1.75p to 161p. British Airways added 3p to 269.25p after oil prices fell for a second day. The airline says some 11% of its expenses are fuel costs. ICI, a chemicals maker, rose 6p to 234.5p. Antofagasta, a miner, jumped 18p to 971.5p. Honeycombe Leisure gained 1 penny to 70.5p after the pub owner reported its full-year net loss narrowed to £86,000 c...
