CBI calls for higher retirement age - papers 19 July

Committing to a 25-year roadmap, the Confederation of British Industry is publishing a document adding its support for a higher state retirement age of 70, whilst also supporting a higher level of basic state pension.

The Daily Telegraph says the document relies on research into long-term pension income needs, which is why it recommends a phasing-in of improved state retirement benefits between 2020 to 2030, which could be paid for by an older workforce. ABBEY IS TO revamp all 741 UK branches over the next five years as part of a strategic plan to prove to investors the bank has an independent future, despite consistent speculation over its future, The Scotsman writes.
