House prices up 4.6% says Land Registry

The Land Registry's latest residential property price report shows average house prices in England and Wales rose 4.6% during 2005 despite a fall in prices between October and December.

It says average house prices are now £191,327, up from £182,920 in 2004 when the annual increase for house prices stood at 11.8%. But sales in England and Wales were up by 12.6%, compared with the same period in 2004. And sales in Greater London increased by 15%. The Land Registry report compares average prices and volume of sales with those for the same quarter in 2004. The figures are taken into account by the Bank of England, which meets tomorrow to discuss whether to cut interest rates, along with other housing market and economic indicators.
