Almost half of all Britons do not know how they will pay for stamp duty land tax when they next buy property, according to research from Stroud & Swindon Building Society.
A survey by Stroud & Swindon found that stamp duty is the fourth most hated tax in the UK, with one in ten saying it should be abolished. When asked how they would pay for stamp duty, 42% of respondents said they had no idea how they would pay the tax. A quarter say they will use their savings to pay stamp duty, while another quarter say they will add the cost to their mortgage. A further 2% say they would ask their parents to pay stamp duty for them, while 2% say they would take out a loan.
