A backbench Labour MP has called for mortgage repossessions to be regulated in an effort to avoid such actions "needlessly destroying people's lives."
George Mudie, MP for Leeds East, introduced a 10-minute rule bill to the House of Commons yesterday, following prime ministers questions, which he says addresses the problem of those on low incomes losing their homes despite owing relatively low sums in mortgage arrears. Mudie says he is concerned by the growth in mortgage repossessions in recent years as property has become more unaffordable for the low-paid.
