A quarter of university towns in the UK recorded a rise in house prices of 20% or more over the past year, according to Halifax's annual review of university house prices.
The review of 79 university towns found that 20 towns saw house prices grow by 20% or more, almost twice the UK average of 11%. The overall average increase for university towns was 14%. Belfast was the fastest growing town with a 47% rise in house prices during the year to June 2007. The research also found seven university towns showed an increase in average house prices of over 50% in the last three years.
