Draft amendments to how the age discrimination regulations affect pensions are being released this week for further informal consultation.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) delayed the pensions part of the new legislation, which came into effect on 1 October, for two months to allow employers and the industry to understand the rules and highlight any outstanding issues. Although there are no details available about what the amending regulation will say, Nigel Moore, from law firm CMS Cameron McKenna, suggested at the Pensions Management Institute’s (PMI) autumn conference last week, the “likelihood is there will be more exemptions rather than less”.
