The long-awaited deal to acquire steelmaker Corus has pushed the FTSE up about 4 points to 6,246 this morning.
India’s Tata Steel has agreed to acquire Anglo-Dutch firm Corus for £6.2bn, pushing the latter’s shares up more than 6% or 38.5p to 601.5p. The deal would give the Indian firm access to some of the more advanced technology used by the industry. Power generator Drax has yo-yoed in recent days, and today is up 18.5p to 709p. Vodafone has improved by 2.25p to 149.5p after again telling investors it will not overpay for its next big acquisition. Energy stocks continue to improve, with BP up 2p to 539p, and Shell ‘A’ shares up 2p to £17.25. Insurers are doing less well after results ...
