Grey vote Budget dominates the front pages - papers 17th March

DOMINATING THE front page of all the national newspapers this morning is yesterday's pre-election Budget which targeted sweeteners and the grey and family vote.

The Guardian points out banks and lenders have agreed to double the size of a government programme geared towards helping more people onto the housing ladder. Expansion of the Homebuy scheme, which currently costs the taxpayer £500m a year, should help 20,000 people a year acquire low-cost loans over the next five years. The Treasury, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Council of Mortgage Lenders along with the lenders have agreed to provide a further £500m annually. Elsewhere, the Scotsman points out the City is sceptical as to whether Brown is sailing a little close ...
