FTSE up as UK stocks regain

The benchmark FTSE 100 has so far gained about 2 points to 4,493 after UK stocks rebounded, boosted by gains made by WPP Group and Abbey National.

WPP, one of the world's largest advertising and marketing companies, rose 12p to 572p. Lender Abbey National also added 5.5p to 473.5p. In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index rose 82.01 points to 11,521.93 earlier today, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 11.45 points to 12,338.30. Across the Atlantic, trading ended up yesterday as the Dow Jones Industrial Average index rose 148.26 points to 10,391.08 by the close. The S&P 500 index gained 17.92 points to 1,140.42, and Nasdaq's Composite index advanced 42.00 points to 2,020.62. IFAonline
