Govt launches review of private rented sector

Communities and Local Government (CLG) has today announced a major review of the private rented sector.

Housing Minister Yvette Cooper says the huge growth of the private rented sector in recent years has warranted a full study of its impact. According to CLG figures, almost 2.6m homes in England are rented from over half a million landlords and the independent review will seek to examine the problems that tenants and landlords face. A report from the Citizens Advice Bureau found one in five tenants was dissatisfied with the quality of repairs carried out by their landlord, and many feared retaliation if they complained to the authorities.
