Shell leads FTSE rise

The FTSE 100 index has added 28 points, or 0.5%, to 5712.1 points this morning, led by Shell.

Royal Dutch Shell has gained 1% to £17.47p as oil traded above $70 a barrel for a third day in New York yesterday after lost output at a Citgo Petroleum refinery and a report on US jobless claims heightened concern fuel supplies may be inadequate for peak holiday demand. BP has also risen 1.40% to 613.5p, while BG Group has climbed 1.03% to 683.5p. Miners have moved higher, with Antofagasta up 0.76% to 399p. AB Ports has climbed 4.5% to 920.5p after a Goldman Sachs-led consortium increased its bid for the company by 8.3% to £2.8bn pounds, topping an offer from Macquarie Bank. In J...
