Frozen tax limits earn Treasury millions - papers 14th March

GORDON BROWN is gaining millions of pounds a year for the Treasury by leaving tax allowances and thresholds in line with inflation, says this morning's Times newspaper.

In the run up to the Budget on Wednesday, there are likely to be a stream of stories on the current tax situation but the latest research from Ernst & Young points out the Chancellor’s “stealth tactic” of refusing to index allowances stretches far beyond stamp duty and income tax, as the accountancy firm has unearthed a catalogue of taxes which the Chancellor is raking in extra millions by leaving thresholds untouched year after year.
